Rockers sweep past Hawks, Bombers to capture LVR Mini-Tournament
Stanley Humphries Rockers of Castlegar opened the West Kootenay Junior Boy’s Basketball season with a pair of wins Saturday at the Hangar in Nelson.
The Rockers jumped to a 26-7 lead, before coasting to a 46-25 decision over the L.V. Rogers Bombers in a three-team mini-tournament.
Morgan Lynn led the Rockers with 11 points while Liam Harder and Marvin Archer each added eight points.
Jairo Mangapot had 10 points and Joshua Jolicoeur added eight points for the Bombers.
Stanley Humphries, finishing third in last season’s West Kootenay Championships in Grand Forks, dumped J. Lloyd Crowe of Trail 46-25 to complete the two-game sweep.
Lynn led the offence with 17 points while Kyle Hadikan had 12 and Daniel D’Onatio added six.
Nahum Colwell and Jackson Kanakin each had six points for the Hawks.
In the final game of the day, the Crowe Hawks out scored the LVR Bombers 11-3 in the fourth quarter to escape with a 42-29 victory.
Ayden McNamee led the Hawks with 11 points. Antonio Pasqualotto and Karssey Levng each added six points for the Hawks.
Thomas Baxter scored eight points and David Hu had seven to lead the Bomber attack.
LVR is back in action Thursday when the Bombers host the Rockers at 6 p.m. in the Hangar.
The Junior Bombers travel to Creston Saturday to face Prince Charles and Mount Baker Wild of Cranbrook in a three-team mini tournament.
