Crash closes Hwy 3 Monday, sends two to hospital
A 71-year-old man is in hospital with a broken pelvis after an accident on Highway 3 yesterday that shut down traffic for hours.
Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue Chief Terry Martin said they got the call at roughly 4:15 p.m., and found the crash scene roughly five kilometres west of Nancy Greene Lake.
“The logging-truck driver was already out of his vehicle with minor injuries, while the occupant of the small car was trapped in his vehicle,” Martin said, adding the Jaws of Life were used to extricate the latter. Both were sent to Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital.
Trail RCMP also attended, and top cop Sgt. Darren Oelke said conditions were so horrendous that either one, or both, vehicles may have crossed the centre line.
“The centre line wasn’t even visible,” he said. “Conditions were extremely unfavourable. The investigation is ongoing.”
