Okay Bombers, let’s . . . play . . . ball.

Unfortunately, the first home game for the L.V. Rogers High School Baseball team will not be at the newly refurbished Queen Elizabeth Park in Nelson.

Bomber fans need to travel 80 kilometers to the west to Trail for the 2015 LVR High School Tournament.

“Unfortunately for accommodations and such we had to make a decision about two weeks ago,” said Bomber manager Ron Mace when asked why the move to Trail.

Mace also said Queen Elizabeth Park does not have a pitching mound installed, which also posed a problem.

“With that in mind and the fact we now have five teams in our tournament we moved to Butler Park in Trail for this year.”

The Bombers are off to an amazing start to the season, going 10-0 against American opposition to begin the2015 campaign.

“We have had strong games from our pitchers and hitters so far, but this weekend will be the big test for us, as we play all the Canadian teams which will all be varsity teams,” Mace explained.

“The teams we play in the USA are not always varsity teams, due to their schedule restrictions.”

The Bombers consist mostly of LVR players with a handful from Trail and Castlegar.

The pitching staff is bolstered by Braeden Zarikoff, Hanno Southam and Austin Tambellini, all Grade 12’s players who pitch and play important defensive positions for us Mace said.

LVR opens the tournament Friday with a pair of games against Mount Baker of Cranbrook (10 a.m.) and Kimberley Selkirk Storm 12:15 p.m..

The Bombers face Mount Boucherie of Kelowna (2:30 p.m.) and Vulcan, Alta. (12:15 p.m.) Saturday.

All Games are being played at Butler Park and Pople Park in Trail.
