A heartbreaking and ironic twist of fate has left a local firefighter and his family with nothing after a fire destroyed their Warfield home yesterday.

Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue Chief Terry Martin said a call came in on March 30 at 2:02 p.m. indicating there was a structure fire on Turner Street in Warfield.

“We were able to knock it down very quickly, but I’m pretty sure they (the family who live there) lost everything due to the heat and smoke,” Martin said, adding no one was home at the time, but the family’s two pets also perished in the fire.

He said the cause of the blaze is still under investigation, but it appears to have been accidental in nature and foul play is not suspected.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Glen and Jenny King and their four-year-old son, McCoy, and donations of clothing, food, etcetera are being accepted at the Warfield village office. Glen is a paid, on-call firefighter with Company #2 out of Warfield.
