Bylaw investigation leads to arrest of man on outstanding warrants

A routine investigation by a Nelson Bylaw Officer led to the arrest of a man on several outstanding warrants Wednesday in Nelson.

Nelson Sergeant Corey Hoy said the incident started when the man fled on foot from officers called to help with a bylaw investigation.

However, the man was quickly located by police in a nearby apartment.

“During the investigation, it was determined that the male had been using an alias for approximately six months and had outstanding warrants for his arrest,” Hoy said as the man was subsequently arrested for obstruction.    

“In addition, the male had been previously released on bail conditions from Nelson, BC and Victoria, BC with several conditions that he was breaching.”

Hoy said the man was remanded into custody and will be appeared  court on Friday (March 13) to face charges of obstruction and failing to comply with his release conditions.

Intoxicated man arrested for causing disturbance
 
Nelson Police arrested a man for causing a disturbance at a local business.

The incident happened Wednesday when NPD dispatch received a call from a local business that an intoxicated male was screaming and yelling at staff.

Police located the man soon after atttending the scene, arresting the male for causing a disturbance, being intoxicated in public and for breaching release conditions from an incident that occurred.

The male was remanded into custody and pled guilty in Nelson Provincial Court on Thursday (March 12).
