Fire sees high school evacuated
Stanley Humphries Secondary School was evacuated this morning after a fire in the boys washroom.
Castlegar deputy fire chief Sam Lattanzio said they got the general alarm fire call at 9:25 a.m., and were informed en route that there was an actual fire on the premises.
“It’s definitely suspicious in nature, and the RCMP are involved,” he said, adding that no one was injured in the blaze.
“There is fire and heat damage contained to that one room, and extensive smoke damage to that wing of the school,” he said, adding he estimates the damages at roughly $10,000, not including the cost of clean up.
