LETTER: Winterfest committee explains why cancellation stands

Further to the Public Notice issued on Nov. 20, from the Winterfest Organizing Committee, Winterfest will remain cancelled for 2014.

After continued discussion and consideration of potential options for hosting Winterfest 2014 at a different location, it has been determined that alternative arrangements for the annual parade, tree lighting and festivities cannot be accommodated on such short notice.

The Winterfest committee’s objective is to plan a community event for all to enjoy, for families to gather at City Hall and downtown Castlegar to mix and mingle with friends and neighbours and enjoy an evening of holiday spirit.
The Winterfest Committee has worked hard to organize the 2014 Winterfest event and will continue to work with the volunteers over the next year to ensure that Winterfest 2015 is a memorable celebration for families in our community. 2015 will mark the 20th Anniversary of the initial Winterfest Celebration held in 1995.

The committee encourages families to come out and enjoy the other holiday celebrations being offered in our community.
