Whitewater, Red Mtn. move into second round of Powder Magazine 2014 Ski Town Throwdown contest
It appears Whitewater and Red Mountain are heading for a collision course in the Powder Magazine 2014 Ski Town Throwdown contest.
This, of course, should the two local ski resorts based in Nelson and Rossland, respectively, advance into the third round.
Both Whitewater and Red Mountain took down first round opponents as the competition kicked off earlier this month.
Whitewater outlasted Girdwood Alaska while Red Mountain ousted powerhouse Whistler/Blackcomb.
Whitewater, seeded fourth in the Backscratcher Conference, now meets another BC resort, Mount Washington when voting opens Monday, October 27 in second round voting.
The same day Red Mountain, seeded number two, meets Eaglecrest of Alaska.
Voting can be done at the Powder Mag Contest website.
Whitewater and Rossland combined forces during the inaugural Ski Town Throwdown contest to capture the grand prize.
Last year the Nelson-based resort was eliminated in the second round of the contest by Revelstoke by the narrowest of margins — 1527 to 1507.
Throughout the day the ski hills traded leads, with Whitewater holding a slim four vote advantage an hour before the polls closed.
In the end, however, it was Revelstoke with the most votes, advancing the Columbia Country resort to the third round against the winner of Panorama/Invermere and Banff/Lake Louise.
