RCMP continue to search for Peter DeGroot and are urging residents to remain indoors, respect the restrictions, and to stay vigilant.

The search for the suspect in an area just west of Slocan remains active and ongoing. That area remains subject to police containment which affects only a few rural homes and a vast wooded landscape. Police are conducting a methodical search of the area and want to ensure the community remains safe. Our hope is that DeGroot can be found quickly and without incident.

“Peter DeGroot remains at large and is believed to be armed and dangerous,” says Chief Superintendent Frank Smart, Southeast District Commander. “To that end, we continue to urge the residents of Slocan to remain indoors, or at least limit their movements, and stay vigilant.”

Additional investigators have been brought in to assist with the investigation and to follow up on numerous tips from the public. Adequate resources have responded and will continue to do so until the situation is resolved. Anyone with information directly related to DeGroot’s movements or sightings are asked to call 9-1-1.

We continue to work closely with our partners to ensure that they have the information they need. We are continuously assessing the situation and commit to update the public whenever possible. Communications in the area are limited and have presented certain challenges with respect to timely updates and we thank the residents of Slocan for their patience.
