Celgar speaks to stink situation
Celgar is offering some information regarding the pungent stench recently emanating from the mill.
Spokesperson Sandy Hinter said today that a mechanical problem is at the root of the odiferous issue.
“On … Oct. 4, Zellstoff Celgar Ltd experienced an electrical failure on their underground electrical line to the pump house,” Hinter said. “This resulted in the loss of mill water which shut the mill down immediately. The power was switched to the overhead line and the pumps were restarted with full mill water and power restored by the late afternoon.
“The sudden shutdown of the pulp mill was an unplanned event and as such caused some difficulty in starting up again. Celgar is still in the start-up process and this may result in some odour being experienced in the community until full production rates are restored.
“Celgar apologizes for the disruption and is working diligently to correct the issues and return to full operations in a safe and efficient manner.”
