Connie Denesiuk has announced her intention to seek the Federal Liberal nomination for the new South Okanagan-West Kootenay riding.

The new South Okanagan-West Kootenay riding brings together towns, cities and communities in an especially beautiful region of the province.  There are significant demographic, economic, historical and environmental differences in the communities that form this new riding. They also face some common challenges.

Despite the differences, I believe that many people of the South Okanagan-West Kootenay share my concerns, and agree that positive change is needed.  I am compelled to influence that positive change, which is why I am seeking the Federal Liberal Party nomination.

  • I  believe that all Canadians should have a fair democratic vote, in a process that is absent of advantages for any political party.
  • I believe we must build economic strength in the South Okanagan-West Kootenay region.  Our unemployment rate is 8 per cent, which puts us above the Canadian average of 7 per cent; therefore we should be putting Canadians to work first whenever possible.
  • It is our duty to future generations to ensure effective resource and environmental stewardship.
  • Stringent accountability measures are clearly needed for the money we pay in taxes, in order to prevent wasteful spending from the top down.

My governance experience includes service as board chair for the Okanagan Skaha School district for 9 years (trustee for 19), President of the B.C. School Trustees Association from 2008 – 2011 and director of the Canadian School Board association, also from 2008 – 2011.

My husband Bob and I have partnered in our construction business, serving the South Okanagan, since 1980. We are proud of our four grown children, and our three grandchildren bring Bob and me great joy.”

Currently, I serve as vice chair of the Okanagan College Board of Governors, Chair of the Trail of the Okanagans steering committee,  Director  for the Summerland Chamber of Commerce, and Summerland Credit Union, and Leadership Board of Summerland Baptist Church.
