Hawks roll past Storm to clinch second KIJHL title in three seasons
When push came to shove, it’s obvious the Beaver Valley Nitehawks were the stronger team.
Beaver Valley flexed its offensives muscles, out scoring Kamloops 14-3 in the final two games to clinch the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League title with a 6-0 shutout victory Friday in Fruitvale.
The Hawks, winners the best-of-seven series 4-2, capture its second KIJHL title in three seasons.
Beaver Valley scored twice in each period to support the 30-save performance of netminder Brett Clark.
Dallas Calvin, who scored seven goals in the series, potted two to once again lead Beaver Valley.
Mitch Foyle, Dan Holland, Braden Fuller and Russell Mortlock also scored for Beaver Valley.
Ryan Edwards, who scored four times in Game five, added three assists.
The Hawks now move on to the Cyclone Taylor Cup beginning Thursday in Nelson.
Beaver Valley enters the four-team tournament as the KIJHL rep.
Vancouver Island champs Victoria Cougars and Aldergrove Kodiaks, winners of the Pacific Coast league, join host Nelson Leafs as the other three teams.
Action begins Thursday with Beaver Valley meeting Aldergrove Kodiaks at 3:30 p.m. Nelson hosts Victoria at 7 p.m.
