Greater Van sweeps series against Kootenay Ice

The Kootenay Ice took it on the chin for the second consecutive week, dropping a pair of games to tough Vancouver opposition in B.C. Hockey Major Midget League action in the Sunflower City.

The Greater Vancouver Canadians traveled to the Castlegar Arena Complex before skating off with a pair of wins — 8-2 Saturday and 5-2 Sunday.

Kootenay is now riding a five game losing streak where the squad has been outscored 36-11.

Ryan Wilkinson scored twice to lead the fourth-place Canadians to the series-opening win.

Sawyer Hunt of Nelson and Kadrian Klimchuk of Castlegar replied for the Ice.

Greater Vancouver held period leads of 3-0 and 6-1.

Sunday, the Canadians exploded for three second-period goals to snap a 1-1 tie.

Five different players scored for Greater Vancouver.

Ryan Neil of Fruitvale and Kyle Chernenoff replied for Kootenay.

Kootenay travels to Kamloops Saturday to face the Thompson Blazers in a two-game weekend series.
