Prevent Cancer Now is bringing back the popular  Kiss Off Cancer Cook-Off, launched in 2011. The event grew from having 40  guests in its first year, to over 100 guests last year. The cook-off will  take place on Sunday, November 17, 2013 at the Prestige Inn in Rossland.

The event will see celebrity chefs competing against each other to create scrumptious dishes with foods that prevent cancer. Chefs from Gabriella’s Restaurants, The Gypsy at Red, The Flying Steamshovel and Ying’s Café will go head-to-head. Shelley Adams, author of the Whitewater series of cookbooks,  will be one of four judges assessing the dishes for use of anti-cancer  ingredients, taste and appearance. A Consumer’s Choice prize will also be  presented, voted on by the public.

Community cooks can show off their culinary talents by entering their favourite healthy dishes, peer-judged by other cooks and guests at the cook-off. Everyone is invited to come enjoy the food and buy wonderful gifts  at the silent auction – all donated by businesses in Rossland, Trail and  Nelson.

Prevent Cancer Now (PCN) began organizing the Kiss-Off Cancer Cook-Off in Rossland as part of its ongoing efforts to let people know that over half, and up to 90% of cancers, are preventable. According to PCN volunteer co-chair, Diana Daghofer, “There are so many things people can do to protect themselves and loved ones from cancer. Diet is an important one, and  the cook-off gets people involved in a hands-on way that’s a lot of fun.”

Tickets are available at Bear Country Kitchens, the Alpine Grind and Gabriella’s at the Prestige Inn. There is special pricing for cooks and anyone who purchases a ticket in advance. Details are available at the Prevent Cancer Now website – www.preventcancernow.ca.

A generous donation by Century 21 Kootenay Homes means that all costs are covered, and the full proceeds will go to Prevent Cancer Now.

So come out to the Kiss-Off Cancer Cook-Off – Rosssland’s biggest and healthiest gourmet dinner!
