Man in custody following stabbing at Fernie Hotel

Fernie RCMP have a 54-year-old local man in custody following a stabbing incident in the Elk Valley City Monday.

Police were called to the Fernie Hotel Monday (November 4) at 9:30 p.m. to a report of a stabbing.

When officers arrived a 55-year-old male victim alleged that he had been attacked by the male suspect armed with a knife.

Investigators spoke to other patrons and staff with preliminary findings indicating that the incident occurred in the hotel’s common room. The injured victim was able to make his way to the hotel’s licensed lounge area where he was assisted by staff and patrons.

Investigators also located the suspect, who had returned to his respective room, where the man was taken into custody without incident.

The victim was transported to the Elk Valley Hospital where he was treated for non life-threatening injuries.

Both men were renters at the hotel and known to each other. 

The suspect remains in custody awaiting court process.
