From 6:47 p.m. August 7 to 9:53 p.m. on Aug. 8, Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital welcomed seven new babies into the world, according to IHA communications officer Karl Hardt, who added four of the babies were from Castlegar, one from Trail, one from Grand Forks and one from Greenwood.

“In a maternity unit that averages five babies a week, delivering seven babies in 27 hours was definitely a new record,” he said. “All babies (four girls and three boys) and moms were healthy and happy – a testament to the dedicated efforts of all the physicians, nurses and support staff who made sure everything went smoothly.”

Hospital management went on to praise the efforts of facility staff in managing those very busy and emotional hours.

“It was an amazing couple of days and I can’t say enough about the work everyone at our hospital did to make sure each delivery went well,” says Trisha Thompson, KBRH manager, Maternal Child Services & Inpatient Surgical Unit. Families in the area are lucky to have such a great team supporting our maternity services.”
