Counterfeit U.S. bills turning up in Nelson
Nelson Police is sending out an urgent message for local merchants to be vigilant when accepting American currency after several reports of counterfeit bills turning up in the Heritage City.
Acting Sergeant David Laing of the Nelson Police said in a statement the department has received numerous reports of counterfeit U.S bills in the past few days.
“Merchants are reminded to be diligent with all currency and make staff aware of all the security features present in both U.S and Canadian currency,” Laing explained.
Laingadded the recent influx of counterfeit U.S bills have been 50 and 100 dollar denominations.
Cyclist collides with vehicle in Uphill
Nelson Police report a vehicle at the intersection of Hendryx and Mill Street struck a 14-year-old cyclistThursday (September 5) afternoon.
The cyclist, not wearing a helent, failed to heed a stop sign. No serious injuries resulted but the cycling.
However, police would like to remind the public that helmets are mandatory for cyclists in the province.
Knife-threatening man charged with uttering threats
A female received a shock to the system Wednesday evening (September 4) when a man in the allegedly waved a knife at her.
The incident happened at 6 p.m. in the 700 block of Front Street.
The 34-year-old man, who was intoxicated at the time, approached a female who was seated in a parked vehicle and waved a knife at her.
Police said the male faces charges of Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, Uttering Threats and four counts of Breach of Probation.
Relaxing workout turns into nightmare for NDCC patrons
Nelson Police is currently investigating a theft at the Nelson and District Community Centre Wednesday (September 4) afternoon.
At approximately 1:30 p.m., NPD officers were called to the community centre after two patrons found their locks to lockers removed with bolt cutters.
The matter is currently under investigation and the public is requested to report any suspicious activity to both NDCC staff and the Nelson Police Department.
