The following is a press release issued by police on April 19:

Further to the media release sent out yesterday, Zachary Knodel was located late last night. Knodel did end up going to a family members house in the lower mainland. Police will be requesting Ministry of Children and Families follow up the child and parent. The RCMP would like to thanks all those people who called in with information.

Previous story:

On April 14 at 10 p.m., Zachary Knodel, age 16, ran away from home.

Zachary was last seen at 12 Tribes in South Slocan.

Zachary had been staying in the care of a friend there and was due to travel to Winnipeg in May to re-unite with his mother. It is unknown at this time if Zachary was heading east to Winnipeg or not as he has family members in Chilliwack, Dawson Creek, and Kelowna. Zachary may also be using the last names of DLOUHY or SHEETS.

Zachary is described as age 16, 5’6 to 5’7 , 140 pound (slim), hair- black buzz cut, eyes-brown wearing-jeans, hoody, and possibly a backpack.

The Nelson RCMP are asking if anyone has seen or been in contact with Zachary to call Nelson RCMP. In particular if any motorists in the South Slocan area saw a young boy hitchhiking on Tuesday evening around 10:10 PM near the South Slocan junction to also call the RCMP.
