Two charged in Castlegar arsons
Two people have been charged with arson in relation to two fires that destroyed a van and a church in Castlegar last week, according to RCMP Inspector Nick Romanchuk.
“18-year-old Lee Wilding of Castlegar and a 16-year-old Castlegar female have been charged,” he said, adding he can’t name the female because of her age.
“She was taken before a JP (Justice of the Peace) and released on a number of conditions,” he said. “He (Wilding) is still in custody and will appear in court in Grand Forks today.”
A third fire in a garage the same day appears, at this time, to be unrelated.
“I want to highlight the exceptional work our members did on this file – the fires happened on Tuesday, arrests were made on Thursday, and the court appearance is today,” he said. “They worked over the Easter weekend to pull this all together.
“It’s very impressive.”
