Nichol rink drops pair at Mixed Curling Championships

Kootenay champion Myron Nichol is off to a sluggish start at the Williams Moving & Storage B.C. Mixed Curling Championships in Vancouver.

Nichol, third Heather Nichol, both of Castlegar and Nelson’s Jamie (third) and Marlo (lead) Tedesco lost 8-4 to Keith Switzer and 9-4 to Fizz McKie during the first two draws Thursday.

Switzer scored three in the third before stealing singles in the third and fourth ends to build a 5-1 lead on the Nichol rink.

McKie led 6-0 after three ends en route to the win.

The two losses dropped the Nichol rink into the C event the Kootenay reps face Jay Wakefield of Vancouver.

The other Kootenay rink Tom Buchy of Kimberley, won his first game before losing 11-2 to Tyler Klymchuk of Langley to drop into the B event.

The Mixed tournament concludes Sunday with the final at 2 p.m.
