Counterfeit Cash Cropping Up in Grand Forks

Counterfeit Canadian $100 bills were passed twice recently in Grand Forks.

In the past few days two retail locations, the Subway restaurant and the Extra Foods Gas Bar, were the victims of counterfeit money being passed off as the genuine article.

The counterfeits are of older Canadian $100 bills. In both cases the serial number on the bill was the same: EJK4145615. While not all of the anti-counterfeiting devices were in place some appeared to be. Of special note is the shiny holographic stripe that runs vertically along the left edge. This appears to be real but is not from a $100 bill, but seems to be stripped from a $10 bill and glued onto the fake $100 note.

A male passed one at the Subway restaurant and later a female passed one at the gas bar at Extra Foods. Police will be reviewing security camera footage from both locations. In the video above you can see some of it. The footage from the gas bar has the clearest image of the female who left in an older, white automobile accompanied by a male.

If you see this person or the fake $100 bills please contact the Grand Forks RCMP detachment at (250) 442-8288.
