Canada Border Service agents at a land crossing near Nelson, BC put an end to a man-hunt which crossed the northern Canada/US border.

John Peter Ollivier, 45, of Ketchikan, Alaska, is alleged to have been responsible for a rash of break & enters in Alaska before stealing a boat and crossing the marine border into Canada.

Ollivier took refuge in small communities in the north and began hitch-hiking through the area.

Alaska State Troopers, RCMP Detachment members, Federal RCMP Border Integrity members and CBSA worked together to locate and arrest Ollivier.

On the evening of (Thursday) January 24, alert CBSA agents at the Nelway land crossing south of Salmo observed suspicious activity and investigated further.

Ollivier was confirmed to be a passenger in a truck and he was taken into custody.

“This was an example of the type of excellent partnerships between the RCMP, CBSA and US Law Enforcement which maximize our ability to improve the public safety within our respective communities,” said Sgt. Donovan Tait, Lisims/Nass Valley Detachment Commander.

“Each agency was committed to getting the job done and ensuring Mr. Ollivier was brought before the courts to answer the allegations against him.

“His arrest is a success for all of us”.
