A 60 year-old woman from Nakusp faces charges of possession of an illegal substance for the purpose of trafficking after Grand Forks RCMP seized 8.4 kilograms of marijuana from her vehicle, Wednesday, November 28.

A Grand Forks RCMP police officer’s attention was peaked when he saw a vehicle driving slowly down Highway 3 by Nursery Road in Grand Forks at 12:05 a.m.

The vehicle then pulled up along the shoulder. When the police officer approached the sole women driver, she admitted to having some marijuana in her possession, said Grand Forks RCMP staff sergeant Jim Harrison.

She was then arrested, which gave the officer the right to search her vehicle, where he found 8.4 kilograms (18.5 pounds) of marijuana, said Harrison.

“It was nice work by our police officer for seeing something wasn’t right,” said Harrison.

The woman, who has not yet been formally charged and therefore her name cannot be released, is no longer in custody.

She was released with a promise to appear.
