The road to adding another blue banner to the walls of the Mount Sentinel gymnasium just got a little tougher for the Wildcats.

White Rock Christian Academy edged the host Casts 15-9 in the third game of the best-of-three match to defeat the host school 2-1 in round robin play Thursday at the B.C. High School A Girl’s Volleyball Championships.

The game was played at the L.V. Rogers Hangar in Nelson.

The Wildcats drop to second in C-Division and meet Kootenay rival Fernie Falcons in playoff action Friday.

The Wildcats appeared poised to sweep the match against White Rock after opening with a 25-19 victory in set one.

However, the Lower Mainland squad rallied back to tie the match with a thriling 25-22 win before continuing the momentum in set three.

The Wildcats opened the tournament by bouncing Credo Christian 2-0.

After being taken to a 27-25 first set win, Mount Sentinel returned to form in the second game to outlast Similkameen of Keremeos 2-0.

Top-ranked Kelowna Christian breezed to a three-match win to claim the A Division title.

However, pre-tourney favourite Immaculata was upset 2-0 in B-Division play by Duncan Christian.

Cedar Christian won the D-Division title.

The tournament continues today at Selkirk College Gymnasium in Castlegar.

The playoff round concludes Saturday with the gold medal match set for 7 p.m. and the bronze medal game at 5:30 p.m. at Selkirk College.
