Police are requesting public assistance to get the facts regarding a hit-and-run incident on Halloween night in Fruitvale, according to Trail RCMP Sgt. Rob Hawton.

“On Nov. 1, Trail & Greater District RCMP received a report of a pedestrian hit-and-run accident that occurred in Fruitvale the previous evening (Halloween night),” Hawton said. “At approximately 8 p.m. on Oct. 31, a 14-year-old boy was crossing the street when he was struck by a vehicle turning right off of Nelson Ave. onto Hwy. 3B.

“He was knocked to the ground and received minor injuries. His mother later drove him to the hospital for examination, after which he was released. The boy was alone at the time of the incident.”

Hawton said one possibility is that the driver was unaware of having struck the boy while turning the corner.

‘The vehicle, which did not stop, is described as a darker, SUV type. Police are requesting anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or has any knowledge of it, to please contact Trail & Greater District RCMP at 250-364-2566.”
