There will be no repeat champion in the West Kootenay Flag Football League.

For the second straight year the Castlegar Vikings played the role of spoiler, knocking off defending WKFFL champion Dam Inn Mates 19-13 in semi final action Sunday at the Mount Sentinel Field.

The Vikings meet Nelson Hour Glass in the league final Sunday at high noon at Mount Sentinel. Hour Glass outlasted a short staffed Brewers squad 26-12 in the other semi final.

Quarterback Steve Mota ran in for the winning touchdown with time running out in the game to give the Vikings the upset win.

In 2011, the Vikings upset regular season champ Hour Glass to reach the final.

Dam Inn appeared poised to reach the final, holding a 13-12 lead late in the fourth quarter. But Castlegar drove the field to score the winning points as Mota scrambled out of the pocket and into the corner of the end zone.

Mota found Ryan McKellar for the extra point to solidify the win.

Dam Inn had five plays following the kickoff. But Bryan Lauzon intercepted a long pass by Mates pivot Vic Hoodicoff to kill any late-game rally.

Joel Muller and McKellar caught TD passes from Mota to round out the Vikings scoring.

Kelly Voykin connected with Dan Rywaczuk and Mike Lucas for the two Dam Inn Majors.

In the second game of Semi Final Sunday, Hour Glass rode the arm of quarterback Dan Farden to outlast the Brewers.

Both teams struggled to find any offence early as the defences came to play.

Farden finally got the Hour Glass offence going connecting with Matthew Fuhr for a pair of scores.
