A 27-year-old Calgary man is facing  charges stemming from an incident which occurred in Robson on Aug. 18, according to RCMP Sgt. Laurel Mathew.

“Castlegar RCMP received a call of a suspicious vehicle parked in the Lion’s Head Pub parking lot,” she said. “The vehicle had been parked there over night and was covered in tarps.”

Mathew said it appeared the man had been sleeping in his car, and the tarps were apparently for shade.

“A Castlegar officer attended, and met with the male, who appeared to be under the influence of drugs. As the officer was trying to determine the identity of the male, a struggle ensued and the male was kicking at  the officer.

“The officer was able to gain control of the male and place him in handcuffs.  A search of the male revealed a large quantity of suspected ‘hard’ drugs, including what is believed to be Crystal Meth, MDMA, Heroin, and LSD.”

Charges of possession of a scheduled substance for the purpose of trafficking, as well as obstructing a peace officer, are being recommended by Police.

The male is not known to police. Neither the male nor the officer were injured.

In other police news, Castlegar RCMP are asking for any information the public may have regarding a stolen boat, Mathew said.

“(We) received a call regarding a boat which has been stolen from a home past Sunshine Bay on the lower Arrow lakes. It is believed the boat went missing overnight on July 30.

“The boat is red aluminum with “G.P.” painted in black on either end of the bottom of the boat. There is no motor or seats in the boat. The red paint is fading and peeling in spots. The bottom half of the boat is the original aluminum.

“The boat is of sentimental value to its owner, so if anyone knows what may have happened to it, they are asked to call the Castlegar RCMP at 250-365-7721.”
