It was a clean sweep for Nelson teams at the Inglorious Bashers Flat Track Roller Derby event Saturday at the Castlegar Community Complex.

The Killjoys started the West Kootenay Women’s Flat Track Roller Derby League night off in fine form as the Heritage City squad blasted the Bad News Betties of Trail 270-74.

The Lumber Jackies finished off the sweep by outlasting the Slocan Valley Vendettas 138-125.

The Killjoys, with two players on the roster that also dress for the Kootenay Kannibelles Allstar team, used their experience to overwhelm the Betties.

Meanwhile the Betties had difficulty putting a team on the floor with only seven players — two of which are rookies.

In game two, it appeared the Vendettas won the game.

However, a closer look at the scoresheet revealed three jams did not get recorded. Once the finally tally was made, the Lumber Jackies were declared the winner.

Rossland’s Gnarlies Angels still lead the league standings.

The Angels lead ahead of second place the Killjoys while Salmo’s Babes of Brutality hold down third spot.

The league resumes Tuesday, August 7 in Rossland when the Babes of Brutality meets the Bad News Betties.

On Wednesday, August 15, Gnarlies Angels host Slocan Valley Vendettas.

Both mid-week games are closed to the public.

The playoffs begin August 25 with the regular season champ meeting the fourth place squad in one semi final.

In the other semi the second and third place teams square off.

Semi final action is also closed to the public.

The next opportunity to see the Roller Derby League in action is when the semi-final winners clash in the championship match September 9 in Rossland.
