TSN (The Sports Network) announced Tuesday that Creston has been named the first winning community in this year’s Kraft Celebration Tour.

The news came after hundreds of thousands of online votes from passionate Canadians across the country.

As part of the Kraft Celebration Tour, Creston will host a special edition of SPORTSCENTRE featuring anchors Darren Dutchyshen and Kate Beirness when they kick start the tour with a live broadcast from the British Columbia community on Friday, Aug. 17 at 3 p.m.PT on TSN.

Creston also receives $25,000 from Kraft Canada to put towards improvements to the Creston & District Society for Community Living’s Therapeutic Riding Program.

Creston earned the nod after edging out East Kootenay sister city Kimberley in a head-to-head online vote.

Creston won by garnering 171,142 votes to 143,390 for Kimberley.

Canadians can decide the other winning communities for the Kraft Celebration Tour over the next two weeks.

The last Kraft winner in the Kootenays was Kaslo when the North Kootenay village hosted Sportscentre in 2009.

Kaslo beat out Williams Lake with 52 per cent of the vote.
