The Nelson Daily has learned that the Nazareth/Headpins concert slated for the NDCC Arena Tuesday, July 10 has been cancelled.

The reason is a lack of ticket sales.

Organizers had hoped to sell at least 1,300 tickets to break even but sold less than half that amount.

“We thought we’d sell at least 1,300 to break even. What we did expect to was to sell a lot more than 500,” said promoter Bill Stack, making the decision Tuesday.

Stack said his promotion team is out a bit of money after having to pay the band a deposit fee up front.

Cost of the concert was approimately $30,000, which includes bands and advertising costs.

Tickets were priced reasonably with early bird tickets just $25.

Stack is already trying to re-coup some of his losses with another event in October featuring PIGS, Canada’s Pink Floyd Tribute Band, Kytami and Spaceport Union, a rock band from Victoria.

Tickets will be on sale soon.

Stack said holders of Nazareth tickets can exchange their passes for the October concert or receive a refund, but not until November.
