A man suffered minor burns during an early morning fire Thursday at a Canadian Pacific Rail building on the Nelson waterfront.

In the early hours of Thursday (June 14) emergency crews were called to the Prestige Inn Lakeside Resort to a report a man had been injured in a fire.

The 41-year-old male was taken to Kootenay Lake Hospital and treated for minor burns. He was released a short time later.

Nelson Police also responded to the scene and located a fire in a small building on CPR lands. The man had been using the building as temporary housing.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation but it does not appear intentionally set.  The building, which appears not to be in active use by CP, was badly damaged.  The fire was contained to this one building.
