Wheeldon, Hare spark West Kootenay Wildcats to first win at Female Bantam Championships

Nelsonites Jenna Wheeldon and Emma Hare each score twice to lift the West Kootenay Wildcats into the win column at the B.C. Hockey Female Bantam Championships on Vancouver Island with a 5-4 victory over South Island Royals.

The win improves the record of the Cats to 1-2.

However, the record is not good enough for West Kootenay to advance into the playoff round.

The Cats opened with a pair of losses to North Shore Female 3-0 and Prince George 2-1. The Northern squad leads the standings with a 3-0 record.

Kaslo/Nelson Midgets suffer first loss

Kaslo/Nelson Midgets dropped to 1-1 after suffering its first loss at the B.C. Hockey Midget Tier III Championships Tuesday in Osoyoos.

The Midgets lost 6-4 to Abbotsford.

Kaslo/Nelson opened the tournament Monday with a 3-2 win over Whitehorse.

The squad meets Quesnel Wednesday at 8 a.m. before concluding the tournament Thursday against Kerry Park of Vancouver Island.

The top four teams in advance to the semi final Friday.

Peewee Leafs eliminated from Championships

The Nelson Peewee Leafs squandered a two-goal lead as Whitehorse rallied to post a 5-4 victory at the B.C. Hockey Tier III Peewee Rep Championships Tuesday in Quesnel.

After three days of competition Nelson has a record of 0-3-1.

The West Kootenay zone winners lost 4-2 to Kelowna and 4-1 to Dawson Creek before drawing with Creston 3-3.

The Peewee Leafs defeated Rossland/Trail and Castlegar to advance to the provincial finals.
