Scott Morriseau scored three times as the Castlegar Rebels opened the KIJHL playoffs with a 5-1 victory over the visiting Nelson Leafs Friday at the Arena Complex. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
The Rebels, beating their former netminder for the second time this season, lead the best-of-seven series 1-0 with game two Saturday in Castlegar.
Daylen Pearson and Anthony Delong added singles as the home side held periods leads of 2-0 and 3-1 despite being out shot in the game 31-27.
Most of the Nelson shots came in a 16-8 second period advantage.
Patrick Martens scored the lone goal for the Leafs.
In other KIJHL action Fernie defeated Golden 6-1, Kelowna Chiefs upset Osoyoos Coyotes 4-3, Princeton edged Penticton 1-0, Kimberley edged Creston and Kamloops got by North Okanagan by the same 2-1 scores.
All winners take a 1-0 lead in their respective divisional semi finals.
