Nelson man charged with Resisting Arrest

Nelson City Police have charged a 45-year-old Nelson man with Resisting Arrest and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
In the early hours of Thursday, January 12th, a Nelson Police officer observed a driver commit several traffic violations.
The officer attempted to stop the vehicle however it fled and attempted to evade police.
After a short pursuit the vehicle stopped but the driver fled on foot. He was later arrested following a lengthy foot pursuit.
While being arrested the driver resisted and the police members were required to use pepper spray and physical force to subdue him.
The vehicle involved was impounded due to Reynold being a prohibited driver.
More criminal charges are pending.
The passenger in the vehicle, a 50-year-old female Castlegar resident was also arrested and held in custody until sober.
Hammer, alcohol gets Ontario man into trouble
At 3:20 p.m. on Thursday, January 12th Nelson Police received a call for assistance from a resident in the downtown area.
The caller was requesting police remove an intoxicated male from his residence however once the intoxicated male knew the police were attending he armed himself with a hammer.
Once police arrived the intoxicated male was seen running through houses in the 200-block Vernon Street with the hammer clearly visible in his pants pocket.
Fortunately the male responded to the polices’ orders to drop the hammer however he continued to attempt to flee and struggle forcing police to use physical force to take him into custody.
The male, a 29-year-old Ontario resident who had only been in Nelson for three days, remains in police custody while the incident is under investigation.
