Team Blue rallied from a two-goal deficit to edge rival Team White 3-2 at the 2011 B.C. Female Midget AAA All Star Game Sunday at the Event Centre in Langley.

The game showcased the awesome talent in the five-team B.C. Hockey League.

Trailing 2-0 with time running out in the third period, Payge Pena of the Fraser Valley Phanton cut the margin in half with a goal at the 13-minute mark.

Just over two minutes later Madison Sands, also of the Phantom, tied the game with assists to Fraser Valley teammate Chelsea Wilson and Mercedes Wright of the Prince George Cougars.

Three members of the Kootenay Wildcats were instrumental in giving Team White the two-goal lead.

Nakusp’s Shea Weighill assisted on a goal by Miranda Pendergraft of the Okanagan Rockets giving Team White the 1-0 lead.

The Yuris girls of Trail, Makayla — a late addition to the game — and sister Katie of the Wildcats, combined to double the lead to 2-0 for Team White.

In the shootout, Team Blue managed to outscore White to take home the title.

The three stars of the game were Sands, Thompson-Okanagan’s Maggie Shykula-Ross and Cassidy Hendricks of Vancouver Fusion.

Weighill won the break away title during the skills competition.

Also attending the game from the Wildcats were Holly Nikirk of Invermere, Erin McLean of Trail, Christine Bonacci of Trail, Denomie Vockeroth-Fisher of Rossland and goalie Morgan Flynn of Castlegar.

The Female Midget AAA League was initiated in the 2007-2008 season in response to the membership’s desire to provide an opportunity for elite female hockey players to come together to challenge other elite Female Midget teams.

The Wildcats, fourth in the five-team league, returns to action January 7-8 when the Prince George Cougars travel to the Heritage City for a pair of games.
