Police release name of victim in last night's fatal car crash
A Calgary man has died after a collision last night threw him from his vehicle.
According to RCMP Sgt. Derrick Donovan, with West Kootenay Traffic Services, Highway 3 was closed for about four hours last night after a fatal collision about 10 km southeast of Castlegar at about 10:30 p.m.
“Initial investigation revealed a 2008, four-door GMC pickup was travelling north and lost control due to slippery road conditions and left the roadway on the left and went down a 100-foot embankment,” he said.
“There were four occupants inside the vehicle, with one of the passengers being ejected and (dying) as a result of his injuries from the collision.”
Donovan said the driver and other two passengers were transported to hospitals in Trail and Nelson to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The victim has been identified as 57-year-old Calgarian Harry Frederick Klapper.
