Nakusp man gets two years in jail for B and E drug search

A Nakusp man that used a two-foot-long metal pipe to break into a house in a search for drugs has been given two years in federal prison.
On Wednesday, Nov. 23 James Russell Fraser, 27, was convicted in Nakusp Provincial Court for offences stemming from a home invasion.
Fraser plead guilty to break and enter and possessing a weapon for dangerous purpose.
The incident occurred in the early morning hours on Feb. 11, 2011 in Nakusp. Fraser, wearing a balaclava and brandishing a two-foot-long metal pipe, forced entry into a residence.
The victim, who is a sufferer of a chronic pain ailment and a patient of morphine, was at home alone and asleep. When the victim awoke he was overcome by Fraser and assaulted with a metal pipe.
Fraser, believed to be looking for drugs, then stole the victim’s morphine prescription consisting of about 60-70 pills.
The victim suffered significant injuries from the attack including a broken collar bone, shoulder blade, hand, and head injuries.
The following day, while executing a search warrant at another house for an unrelated matter, Fraser was located and arrested.
During this search police investigators secured valuable evidence that further linked Fraser to the previous crime.
Fraser was sentenced by B.C. Provincial Court Judge Mrozinski to two years in a federal prison. Fraser also received a 10-year firearm prohibition order, and is ordered to give a sample of his DNA for the National DNA Databank.
