For the second week in a row Jordan Melanson got the better of his Granite Pointe teammate.

Melanson shot a 1-under-par 71 to edge Josh Coletti by a stroke to claim the title at the Zone One West Kootenay Men’s Qualifying Tournament Sunday at Granite Pointe.

The captain of the Simon Fraser University Men’s golf team out dueled Coletti last week to win the Creston Blossom Open. This week Melanson finished the 36-hole tourney with a score of 147.

Coletti, who opened with a four-shot lead on Melanson Saturday with a round of 72, was second at 148 followed by Ben Gresley-Jones of Rossland/Trail at 152.

Brian DeBiasio, formerly of Granite Pointe but now playing out of the Rossland/Trail club, was fourth at 153.

All four players earn spots on the Zone One West Kootenay Men’s Team that will compete in the B.C. Men’s Amateur Tournament July 12-15 at The Dunes at Kamloops.

The two-day tournament, that began with the opening round Saturday at the Castlegar Golf Club, also doubled as the Senior Men’s Qualifier — for players over 55 years of age.

DeBiasio won the title, edging Clarke Dennill of Nakusp by four shots. Bert Higgs of Christina Lake was third at 167 followed by Leif Petersen of Kokanee Springs at 168.

The quartet represents Zone One West Kootenay at the B.C. Senior Men’s Championship August 9-11 at the Squamish Valley Golf Club.
