City Council is once again supporting the “Pitch In” program (from April 20- May 3rd this year). This is a nationwide effort to get Canadians of all ages involved in cleaning up their towns, thinking about waste reduction strategies, and creating a smaller carbon footprint. Here are the activities we have planned here in Rossland:

1. CLEAN UP AROUND YOUR SPACE:

Join the “20 Minute Make Over”. Take 20 minutes to clean up around your home, block or place of business. If you are downtown, sweep your sidewalk area and trot around to the alley to pick up litter.

WHEN & WHERE: Anytime, wherever you like!

2. WATCH A GREAT FILM:

We’ll be screening the excellent film “Be the Change”. It follows the efforts of several families and individuals as they achieve a more sustainable lifestyle and have fun along the way. After the film, Diana Daghofer of Prevent Cancer Now will present some easy ways to reduce environmental pollutants in your home. We’ll offer a few discussion questions too. It should be an interesting and entertaining evening!

WHEN & WHERE: Wednesday April 29th 7pm Seniors Hall. FREE

3. CLEAN UP THE TRAILS:

For all you nature lovers, we’ll be coordinating the 2nd Annual Doggie DooWaaWaa. Volunteers, including the mayor and several councillors, will pick up you-know-what. We’ll provide trash bags, gloves and pick up the bags at the trailhead. Bring a trowel or small shovel. Many thanks to Monashee Medical for donating rubber gloves for this project!

WHEN & WHERE: Rail Grade (Wednesday April 15th) and Centennial Trail (Thursday April 16th) Meet at either site at 8:30am.

4. SUPPORT THE KIDS:

April 20th Tammy Gibson has organized the Sparks, (a group of five and six year old girls) to pitch in too. They’ll be bagging as much litter as they can carry.

On April 22 Councillor Jill Spearn will be mobilizing our school kids. Last year they did a fantastic job picking up litter in the neighborhoods near our schools. Encourage your kids to participate.

GET INVOLVED:

Call Kathy Moore for details 362-3319 or km@2cats.net to participate and we’ll see you out there!
