Murder in Warfield

There appears to have been some foul play in our area on Tuesday night that had local RCMP investigating the scene all night.

Sergeant Rob Hawton of the Trail RCMP: “Police got a call around 6:45 last evening about a single vehicle accident on the highway in the lower part of Warfield. Upon attendance with the Emergency Health Services and the Fire Department, we subsequently learned that the victim had a gunshot wound and was deceased by the time they got him to the hospital. We’ve now followed up with a murder investigation.”

Overnight traffic and commuters heading down to Trail early this morning were forced to detour around the scene down the Warfield Hill road from J.L.Webster Elementary School. The section of road remained closed until just after 1:00pm Wednesday afternoon when traffic resumed.

“The road was closed all night and just reopened here maybe a half hour or so ago,” noted Sergeant Hawton at 1:30pm Wednesday.

Further details on the possible murder scene or suspect were unavailable as of Wednesday afternoon as the investigation is still in its early stages. Even so, police have said that the event in question did not appear to be random.

“It’s still in the early stages. It appears to be isolated as far as the victim was targeted so it’s not random,” said Sergeant Hawton.

Police do not have any specific message to the public around the incident, only that if anyone has any information, they are asked to call the Trail detachment at 250-364-2566 if they haven’t already been spoken to by police.
