Trail and Warfield Reach Recreation & Library Services Agreement

The City of Trail and the Village of Warfield are pleased to announce they have successfully negotiated and approved a 5-year (60 months) recreation and library services agreement. Warfield will contribute $727,000 over the full term of the agreement for both recreation and library services. The agreement permits Warfield residents to access the City’s library and its services in the same manner as Trail residents, and the City’s recreational facilities and programs at the reduced Trail Resident Program (TRP) fee. The current sixty-six-month agreement between the two municipalities expires on December 31, 2020, with the new agreement taking effect on January 1, 2021.

 “We are very pleased to have reached this agreement with Warfield,” said City of Trail Mayor, Lisa Pasin. “It establishes long-term stability and access to all facilities for both Warfield and Trail residents. Building positive relationships with our neighbouring communities continues to be a priority for Trail City Council; and, in this particular case, we wanted to ensure the agreement included clear, fair, and comprehensive language, as this agreement will extend beyond the terms of the current City and Village Councils.”

“On behalf of Warfield Council, I am very happy we have reached a new 5-year recreation agreement with the City of Trail,” said Village of Warfield Mayor, Diane Langman. “Our residents have greatly benefited not only in our existing recreational agreement that we have with the City, but also the great relationship we have with our friends and neighbours. I would like to thank the negotiating teams from both municipalities for working collaboratively together, and for the great dialogue and the mutual respect we have for one another. This is a great example of how small communities should, and need to, work together for the betterment of the whole.”
