The count down is ON – the Kootenay Festival is just two days away!

What began as just a nifty committee idea has become a firmly-established Kootenay tradition, according to volunteer Audrey Maxwell-Polovnikoff.

“People know about us now, and we have groups and vendors approaching us to participate,” she said, adding roughly 2,500 people attended last year, and they expect significantly more this weekend.

“We’re really excited – we have new vendors and fabulous new entertainment,” she said, adding they’ve partnered with Kootenay Family Place, and there will be lots of great kid-friendly family entertainment.

“There will be amazing water fun – if the sun is out, bring your bathing suit and towel,” she said. “There will also be a huge canvas on which our young Picassos can showcase their creativity.

“We’re welcoming our Sister-City delegates from Embetsu, Japan – what a perfect place for them to see all the rich heritage and cultural diversity the Kootenays have to offer.”

Bring your appetites, too – an excellent variety of food vendors serving all genres of culinary treats will be on hand to make sure the event fills not just hearts, minds and eyes … but stomachs, as well.

The cost is only a toonie (kids under 10 get in free), and the fun starts at 10:30 a.m. and runs all the way to 7 p.m. on July 26.

There will be art, crafts, demonstrations, open-air entertainment, educational opportunities, and so much more, all beside the Doukhobor Discovery Centre across from the airport.

Better yet, head on down Saturday morning and see for yourself all the cultural fascination and fun the Kootenays have to offer.
