Columbia Power brings home Safety Gold

Columbia Power Corporation (Columbia Power) was honoured to bring home two Gold level Canadian Electricity Association (CEA) safety awards from a ceremony held earlier this month in Ottawa.

Columbia Power received the CEA President’s Award of Excellence for Employee Safety and the Vice President’s Award for Safety Excellence in the Generation category, both at the Gold level.

The Employee Safety Award recognizes Columbia Power for its top ranking in both All Injury/Illness Frequency and Lost•Time Severity rates company•wide for over four consecutive years.

The Safety Excellence in the Generation category recognizes Columbia Power’s safety record within its generation business for three consecutive years.

“Earning CEA awards for three consecutive years showcases our commitment to public and employee safety,” said Frank Wszelaki, President and Chief Executive Officer of Columbia Power.

“This success is attributed to our investment in safety and ensuring safety excellence is a priority in all aspects of our business.”

“It’s great to see Columbia Power recognized for its excellent safety record,” said Energy and Mines Minister Bill Bennett. “These awards help demonstrate that taking a proactive approach to worker safety can reduce injuries and illness and even save lives.”

The CEA is the national forum and voice of the evolving electricity business in Canada.

The Association contributes to the regional, national and international success of its members through the delivery of quality value•added services.

This year’s awards ceremony recognized excellence in employee safety in the Canadian electricity sector and honoured CEA member performance.
