Castlegar man killed in mountain accident

Trail and Greater District Detachment is assisting the BC Coroner Service and Worksafe BC with the investigation into the death of a Castlegar man who was struck by a tree, according to Trail RCMP Sgt. Darren Oelke.

The 72-year-old man was grooming trails in the Nancy Green cross country ski area when the accident occurred last Friday.

"It looked like the tree had already fallen down partway,” Oelke said. “It fell and pinned the man under his sled.”

A skier was using the trails when he came across the accident scene. Police, Fire, Ambulance and Search and Rescue were involved in the initial call.
