Kootenay Carshare is going Electric.

The local Carshare Cooperative is celebrated the addition of two Hyundai KONAs to the fleet of member owned vehicles, Friday at the Kootenay Co-op in Nelson where members were able to jump in for a sit inside.

KONA is the first electric sub-compact SUV in Canada.

In a media release Thursday, the BC Government and Service Employees’ Union (BCGEU) said ferry workers and their employer, Western Pacific Marine reached a tentative agreement in a contract dispute that caused disruptions to communities on both sides of Kootenay Lake for the past three months.

The union said the tentative agreement was arrived between the two parties on Tuesday, November 26th after 13 days of intensive bargaining and more than five months after the negotiations reached an impasse.

Days after the United Nations raised yet another red flag in the climate change crusade, Fridays for Future Nelson will hold a rally, complete with clothing swap and march through the downtown core, Friday, November 29th.

The event set is for the streets of Nelson on Black Friday, the day after American Thanksgiving where retailers, both in Canada and U.S., offer deep discounts on a limited supply of products.

Organizers are planning to include a clothing swap to highlight the massive environmental impacts of consumerism and the fast fashion industry.

Hockey fans far and wide are well aware the Montreal Canadiens Alumni will be in Nelson in January 2020 to meet the Kootenay Patricks as part of the Make A Change Canada Charity Hockey Game.

Now, organizers have announced the roster of local players lacing up the skates to meet the Canadiens Alumni squad.

Leading the Patricks, consisting of ex-NHLers, NCAA players and local junior grads, from behind the bench is former NHLer Mike Laughton. Back in 1967, Laughton was a member of the Oakland Golden Seals who took to the ice against the Canadiens.
