An investigation is underway after a Fruitvale woman was dropped off at KBRH with a gunshot wound to the head, according to RCMP Detachment Commander Sgt. Mike Wicentowich.

“On Monday, March 27, at approximately 5 a.m., Trail and Greater District RCMP were notified that a 36-year-old Fruitvale woman with a single gunshot wound to her head was admitted into the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital in Trail,” Wicentowich said.

“A 39-year-old Nelson man had dropped her off and left the scene. Officers seized a vehicle related to the incident from the parking lot of the hospital. Officers located and arrested the man for a criminal offence in downtown Trail. The man was held police custody for the period of the initial investigation. He has since been release pending further investigation into the incident.

Wicentowich said Trail RCMP would like to speak to any witnesses to this incident or with anyone who has information can contact the Trail Detachment at 250-364-2566 to speak to an investigator.

The man and woman were known to each other and this is believed to be an isolated incident between the couple. Our investigator will be forwarding a report to Crown Counsel for an assessment. Wicentowich said.

He said the female victim is in critical care.

“She’s in hospital surrounded by family, but I’m not going to say where,” he said.
