Search called off for missing Salmo man, investigation continues

Police have called off the search for a missing Salmo man, Cory McKay, but say they will continue the investigation into his disappearance, according to Salmo top cop Cpl. Darryl Orr.

He said the search was suspended on July 11 at 11 p.m., after search efforts failed to locate McKay.

Details of the search:

·         1,400 square km of airplane searching;

·         30 km of lake shoreline searching by helicopter;

·         70 search and rescue volunteers

·         2,100 man hours of searching by foot, vehicle, quads and UTVs;

 “The search areas were locationsat Cottonwood Lake, Bombi, Nancy Green, Paulson Bridge, Christina Lake and Grand Forks areas,” Orr said in a press release Friday.

“The RCMP and the family of Cory McKay wish to thank all of the search and rescue volunteers who took time out of their busy schedules to try to find Cory. Many volunteers adjusted their work shift schedulesand also worked their regular jobs after searching for hours.

“It is a testament to the community spirit inthe Kootenays that so much earnest and sincere effort is consistently made by these Search and Rescue volunteers to search for people they have never known or met.”

 Orr said that, although the search for McKay is currently suspended, the RCMP investigation continues, and if new information is obtained as to his possible whereabouts, the search will be resumed.

McKay is described as:  Caucasian male;58 years old;5′ 7 ” (170 cm);165 lbs (75 kg) with brown hair andgreen eyes.

“Cory was known to be driving a black 1994 Triumph motorcycle BC licene plate Y61200.
