The Trail and Greater District Detachment continue to investigate the stabbing incident that occurred on May 29, and can provide the following update.

The victim has been released from hospital and is expected to make a full recovery. At this time, RCMP believe the incident to be isolated and not an attempted robbery nor racially motivated. The 30-year-old deceased suspect had been visiting the area for approximately two weeks. He was known to the RCMP, however, not to the Trail and Greater District RCMP Detachment.

The RCMP would like to thank everyone who assisted the victim at the scene and commend them for not pursuing the suspect following the attack. Contacting the RCMP immediately was the most prudent course of action. As a result, the RCMP were able to quickly respond to the incident, start its investigation and locate the suspect.

Previous coverage:

On Friday May 29, at approximately 1:44 p.m. the Trail and Greater District Detachment RCMP received a report that a 21-year-old male employee of the Montrose Gas Station, in Montrose, BC, sustained a non life-threatening injury after he was stabbed by a 30-year-old male suspect. The victim is expected to make a full recovery.

The suspect immediately fled the scene after the stabbing. Approximately 15 minutes after the initial incident, the RCMP found the suspect deceased from an apparent self-inflicted
wound in the back yard of a vacant Montrose residence.

In an effort to advance the still ongoing criminal investigation, RCMP is asking witnesses, or anyone with any information regarding this incident to immediately come forward. No piece of information is too small. If you witnessed anything related to the stabbing that occurred on Friday May 29, 2020, at the Montrose Gas Station and have not yet spoken to police, you are urged to call the Trail and Greater District Detachment RCMP at 250-364-2566.
