West Kootenay Bags of Love Foundation originally started to provide bags of personal care essentials and comfort items for children moving to more secure living environments. Each of these large bags contains a handmade quilt and age appropriate personal care items, toys, books etc.  Often times children are not able to take anything with them, so the goal of providing a Bag of Love is to help ease the transition for these children as well as give them something that is just for them.

As time went on, it became apparent there was also a need for bags for adults and seniors who are experiencing crisis and/or distress. To meet that need, we began making large bags customized for adults, as well as smaller personal care bags that hold all kinds of personal care products. We collaborate with private citizens, community resources, and social service agencies to meet the needs within the West Kootenay Region.

To date, they have been supported solely by their communities.

“I can honestly say I have never lived in an area where people are so generous and supportive. It has been amazing,” said the organization’s manager, Sharon.

“We are now in the process of applying for charity status. This will enable us to apply for grants and reach out to more people in the West Kootenay Region. We are so looking forward to continuing to provide bags, within our area, and to meeting and working with people who share our vision.”

Feel free to contact them on their Facebook page, West Kootenay Bags of Love Foundation, or by email @ wkbagsoflove@outlook.com  They would be more than happy to do a presentation for your group or club.
