On May 18, 2023, the Castlegar RCMP Crime Reduction Unit, with support from frontline general duty officers executed a pair of search warrants in connection to an active investigation into drug trafficking, according to Castlegar RCMP Sgt. Monty Taylor. The warrants were executed on two Castlegar area homes to further the investigation into the trafficking of a controlled substance.

“Police executed one of the search warrants at a home in the 2600-block of 5 Avenue, where a 63-year-old male and a 57-year-old female were taken into police custody without incident,” Taylor said. “During the search investigators seized suspected cocaine, items consistent with the trafficking of illicit drugs and Canadian currency.”

He said the second warrant was related to a residence in the 200-block of 3rd Avenue, where a 56-year-old female and a 62-year-old male were taken into police custody without incident. The search of the residence yielded suspect cocaine, items related to the trafficking of CDSA and Canadian currency.

“All four individuals were later released on bail conditions, with a first appearance in Castlegar Provincial Court on September 20, 2023,” Taylor added.

“Castlegar RCMP are continuing their investigation into possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. The matter will be forwarded to the Public Prosecution Services of Canada for full charge assessment.”
